Vet Preferences

Long(ish) story short - I moved a little over an hour away from my previous vet and right now, my 20 year old mare, Kelly, needs her teeth and spring shots done.  She's also had some on-and-off lameness issues that have recently been more on than off.  I'm afraid that Kelly has strained a tendon or ligament in the soft and deeper-than-I'd-like sand footing at the new barn.

The vets up here are totally new to me and they have never seen Kelly before.  Yesterday, my mom offered to pick up Kelly and take her to our familiar vet.  I wouldn't be able to go to that appointment, but I would 90% be able to go a vet day if I used the local vet.

So, what would you all do? Try a new vet when there's an issue happening with an old horse, or take the opportunity to take your horse to their long time vet who is very aware of the health past?  I know that at some point I'll have to use a new vet, but I don't know if this is the time to try someone new.
